Cyclist, 83, dies after Tingalpa crash; two teens on e-bike struck in Coolangatta
Police are investigating a series of traffic incidents over the weekend, including a fatal crash that killed an elderly man.
Emergency services were called to the junction of Wynnum and Murarrie Road in Tingalpa at around 6am on Saturday following reports of a crash involving a car and an 83-year-old cyclist.
The cyclist, a Balmoral man, was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital but passed away a short time later.
The driver of the car, a 50-year-old man from Murarrie, was not injured and the Forensic Crash Unit is assisting with the investigation.
Meanwhile, police on the Gold Coast were investigating a hit-and-run incident in Coolangatta that left two teenage girls seriously injured overnight.
A white Mitsubishi Express van was seen traveling west on Marine Parade just after 7pm when it collided with an e-bike traveling east in the cycle lane on the same road.
The van driver did not stop to help the teenagers, instead fleeing across the NSW border.
The e-bike driver and his passenger, both 15 years old, were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.
A 40-year-old Urang man was arrested by NSW Police at Tweed Heads later that night.
Police stated that the investigation into the accident is ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact them.
