Cyclone Ditwah LIVE updates: After delta, south coastal districts, Ditwah to batter north T.N.

India intensified humanitarian assistance and disaster response under Operation Sagar Bandhu to Sri Lanka on Saturday, November 29, 2025; The island nation continued to cope with the aftermath of devastating Cyclone Ditwah, which left at least 159 people dead. India deployed INS Vikrant and INS Udaygiri to assist the affected families and sent two large cargo planes carrying 21 tonnes of relief materials to Colombo.

In addition to the two ships, INS Sukanya has left Vishakhapatnam with relief supplies and is expected to reach Sri Lanka soon, official sources said. The Indian High Commission in Colombo is assisting Indian passengers stranded at Bandaranaike International Airport after flights were cancelled. They are provided with food, water and other assistance by commission officials.

Two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams of 80 rescuers and four trained dogs, led by P. 8th Battalion Commander K. Tiwary flew from Hindon Air Force Station for Colombo in an IL-76 aircraft of the Indian Air Force early on Saturday. These teams are equipped with inflatable boats, hydraulic cutting and drilling tools, advanced communication equipment, first aid kits and other necessary rescue equipment to conduct search, rescue and humanitarian aid operations in affected areas of Sri Lanka. Indian Navy helicopters rescued many people from flood-affected areas on Saturday, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said.
