Cyclone Senyar: Chennai, Puducherry under IMD’s warning as cyclone likely to intensify

IMD stated that the depression over the southwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of southeastern Sri Lanka and the Equatorial Indian Ocean will further intensify in the next 48 hours and continue to move north-northwestward along the southwestern Bay of Bengal and adjacent Sri Lankan coast towards the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjacent southern Andhra Pradesh.
IMD warned on Wednesday that a low pressure area has formed over southwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of southeastern Sri Lanka and Equatorial Indian Ocean under the influence of Cyclone Senyar. Warning of rain in Chennai and adjoining cities of Tamil Nadu, the weather agency said, “It is very likely to move almost north-northwestward in the next 24 hours and intensify into a depression. It is then very likely to intensify further and continue to move north-northwestward across the southwestern Bay of Bengal and towards the coasts of North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 48 hours.” he said.
Hurricane Senyar Warning
India’s weather monitoring agency has issued a weather warning about Cyclone Senyar, which is active over the Straits of Malacca. “Cyclonic Storm Senyar is active over the Strait of Malacca. Heavy and very heavy rains are expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 26-27 November, and heavy rain is expected on 28-29 November 2025,” IMD said.
