David Nasser urges hope for Iran amid US Israel military campaign

An Iranian refugee who was held at gunpoint at a school before fleeing Iran during the 1979 revolution is calling for hope, democracy and prayers for his country as the United States joins Israel in targeting Iran’s ruling religious regime.

David Nasser, now an American pastor, spoke to Fox News Digital six days after Operation Epic Rage was launched in Iran, which brought back unforgettable memories for him and when he was 9 years old.

“As a child, my family and I had to escape Iran and flee for our lives,” said Nasser, President and CEO. David Nasser Social assistance was recalled.

Explaining that his father was a high-ranking officer in the Iranian army, Nasser said, “We found a safe haven when the refugees gained political asylum here in the USA.” This means “when the government collapsed, his family became a target.”

“One of my most vivid memories, when I realized nothing would ever be the same again, was at a school assembly on a military base; a soldier called out three names, and mine was called first,” he said.

Nasser said, “When I went to the front, the soldier dropped a piece of paper, took his gun from his holster, put it to my head and quoted from the Quran. He said he was sent to make an example of me.” he added.

The principal intervened, but the message he conveyed was clear. Nasser remembered.

He remembers hearing at the time: “They’re killing anyone. They’re trying to make an example of people like our family and they’re using fear.”

“This is one of my first memories of the revolution, but I’m truly in complete fear for my life.”

Soon Nasser’s family came up with an escape plan. They pretended that Nasser’s mother needed emergency heart surgery in Switzerland and bought round-trip tickets to avoid raising suspicion.

“We bought round-trip plane tickets as if we were going to leave and come back, but we were not going to come back. We were running for our lives,” he said.

Nasser remembers holding his father’s hand tightly at the airport and hearing words he will never forget.

“‘If they find out we escaped, they will kill us right here,’ my father said, his hands shaking as he held my hands. The last time I was in Iran, I was a 9-year-old little boy running for his life,” he said.

Nasser, who is now watching the events unfolding in Iran from the security of the United States, said his heart is with millions of desperate Iranians facing uncertainty.

“We see them, I see them, I hear them. My heart is beating really fast for them right now with hope, praying for their protection and livelihood,” Nasser said. he said.

“Protection. I pray for their protection. I want to be a part of services for them. If Iran moves from theocracy to democracy, I want to help rebuild.”

“If that moment really comes and they move from theocracy to democracy, I want to be part of the solution for that little 9-year-old kid that I once was. I want to do this for him.”

Nasser, who also teaches pastoral training at New Vision Baptist Church, said that beyond the political change, he is comforted by what he describes as the spiritual transformation currently underway, which he described as “the fastest growing church in the world right now, or the underground church in Iran.”

“We know that there are at least 4 million and at most 8 million Christians in Iran right now,” he said.

“If you convert from Islam to Christianity in Iran, it can be a death sentence. If they come to your house and you are coming together for Christian worship, they take the title deed of your house and you will lose your house.

“They are in prison, they are tortured, they are mocked, they are ridiculed.

“First of all, I came to America, and it was a land of opportunity. I was given the gift of democracy. So I would love to see democracy in Iran, where all boys and girls are provided with what was provided to me when I was able to escape.”
