De Kock, Miller Slam ICC

New Delhi: Quinton de Kock and David Miller criticized the ICC for allegedly prioritizing England’s travel arrangements over South Africa and the West Indies; The two teams are still waiting to return home amid disruptions caused by the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

England, who lost to India in the second semi-final on Thursday, departed from Mumbai to London on a direct charter flight on Saturday evening. But South Africa and the West Indies have not left the country yet.

West Indies were eliminated from the T20 World Cup following a five-wicket defeat to India at the Eden Gardens on Sunday; South Africa’s campaign ended after losing to New Zealand in the first semi-final held in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Both South Africa and West Indies are expected to travel together on another charter flight from Kolkata. The exact departure time has not yet been confirmed, but the flight is expected to depart on Sunday.

“Funny @icc, we haven’t heard anything! Meanwhile England are somehow leaving before us? @westindies and @proteasmencsa are in the dark! Weird how different teams have more traction than others,” De Kock wrote on his Instagram story.

Teammate Miller also expressed disappointment.

“Funny how England got eliminated after WI & SA and go back home tonight. While WI & SA are still waiting for an answer in Kolkata,” he wrote in the comments section of one of ESPNcricinfo’s posts.

Two-time World Cup-winning former West Indies captain and current head coach Darren Sammy also weighed in on the issue.

“@davidmillersa12 please be a little louder so the people in the back can hear, sir.”

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also questioned the ICC’s decision to send England home earlier than the West Indies and South Africa.

Vaughan wrote to

“All teams in this situation should be treated the same.. Just because you are stronger at the ICC table should not count.. #JustSaying.”

West Indies and South Africa are likely to fly to Johannesburg first, before the Caribbean side progress towards Antigua.

A section of the South African contingent, including members of the team management as well as players Keshav Maharaj, Jason Smith and George Linde, will leave for New Zealand on Sunday for a limited-overs tour starting March 15.

India will face New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
