Lottery winner battered his girlfriend in a drunken rage on Tenerife holiday to celebrate him scooping £3.6million jackpot

A lottery winner beat his girlfriend to celebrate a £3.6million jackpot on his first holiday abroad, then posed by the pool with a bottle of fizzy drink just hours after he was sentenced.

Sean Henderson attacked Suzanne Childs in a drunken rage at the luxury Tenerife hotel booked to celebrate his life-changing win last month.

The carpenter, from Ilfracombe, Devon, grabbed Ms Childs, 42, by the arm, threw her against the wall and forced her to the floor during the attack at the five-star GF Gran Costa Adeje resort.

A Spanish court heard that the attack last Thursday left Ms Childs with painful bruising to her arm and knee, as well as injuries to her head and face.

On Monday, Henderson was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to pay compensation.

Incredibly, after being freed from prison on his birthday, the wife beater shared a Facebook post poolside with a bottle of sparkling wine and captioned it: ‘Happy 40th!!’.

The cheeky post was cryptically placed on a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “I’m Free”.

Ms Childs, a designer who has three daughters from a previous relationship, said the attack left her fearing for her life.

The Spanish court heard that Ms Childs suffered painful bruises on her arm and knee, as well as injuries to her head and face, in the attack last Thursday.

‘I really thought he was going to kill me,’ he said.

‘When he first got up from the sofa I could see how angry he was and I knew I had to run immediately.

‘He caught me, grabbed my arm and threw my head against the wall.

I was absolutely horrified. The force of my head hitting the wall raised the fear that my skull was fractured or my brain damaged.

‘There was blood and broken glass everywhere, I almost crawled out of the room.’

The couple traveled abroad together for the first time to celebrate Henderson’s Lifetime National Lottery win on December 23.

The jackpot means the ruthless bandit will receive £10,000 a month for the next 30 years.

Ms Childs said: ‘When he won I thought ‘this is amazing, what a wonderful life we are going to have together’.

‘But it was as if a switch was flipped and the real Sean emerged.

‘His behavior changed, his attitude towards me changed. It was as if the money was feeding his ego and he no longer needed me.

‘The first night was verbally horrific. Then two days later it got physical.

‘We were drinking and he was very drunk. He had been saying terrible things for years; It was like I was a tramp who was only with him for the money.

‘I got out of bed and tried to calm things down. Some water from my glass splashed on it and it exploded.

‘I saw how angry he was and started to run away but he chased me, grabbed my arm and threw my head against the wall.

‘We didn’t apologize, we didn’t apologize. He just said, ‘I didn’t want to do this.’ It doesn’t give it as ***.

‘I could have cracked his skull.’

Henderson appeared in the Violence Against Women Section of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Magistrates’ Court.

Court documents state that on January 22, at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the hotel’s room 286, Henderson grabbed Ms. Childs by the arm, threw her against the wall and the floor, and struck her in the head, knee, and upper lip.

He had a painful bruise on the inside of his right arm, a bruise above his left kneecap, and wounds on his face. His thumb was also amputated.

Ms. Childs managed to escape the room and reach the elevator, where another couple helped her.

Hotel staff called the police and ambulance and Henderson was arrested.

He was detained for 48 hours before appearing in court, where he admitted to ‘gender-based assault’, the equivalent of domestic violence in the UK.

Prosecutors had sought an immediate nine-month sentence, but Henderson was given a suspended sentence; This is common in Spain, where sentences of two years or less are normally suspended for first-time offenders.

Authorities also issued a restraining order preventing him from returning to the hotel, coming within 500 meters of Ms Childs or traveling on the same flight home.

He returned to England alone on 27 January.

Miss Childs, also from Ilfracombe, reported the attack to Devon and Cornwall Police.

The video, recorded shortly before the attack, shows Henderson launching into an abusive tirade at Ms Childs, calling her a ‘scumbag’, branding her a ‘crook’ and saying: ‘I paid for every damn thing.’

He also drunkenly quipped: ‘You can’t make the money and not be blamed’ and told her: ‘Go and find someone else you think is gorgeous.’

Ms Childs said there were warning signs early in the relationship, including yelling and hurtful comments, but this was the first time he had been physically violent towards her.

He said: ‘He seemed excited to win the money. ‘He lifted his ego into the stratosphere.’

Henderson recently spoke publicly about his lottery win, explaining how he bought the winning ticket after being unable to park at Lidl and instead turning into a Co-op.

The father said the award “changed my life forever” and added that he plans to celebrate with a five-star Canary Islands holiday, buy a house, gift his son a PlayStation 5 and enjoy dining out with his family.

He also said he plans to continue working as a carpenter but would like to work more flexibly.

Ms Childs said she had no hesitation about ending the relationship.

She added: ‘There is not enough money in the world to stay with an abusive person. I would rather be with someone who is very poor and kind than someone who is rich and violent.

‘Sean’s ego was already there. Then the cash arrived, causing his narcissism to go into overdrive.

‘I want people to know what a bad person he is.

‘Hopefully this will stop this from happening to another woman who is tempted by his wealth.’
