Deadliest Catch star’s devastated mom begs producers not to air footage of his fatal fall at sea

A heartbroken mother has spoken out after her Deadliest Catch star son’s final moments were filmed.

Cameras on the long-running Discovery series are reportedly rolling as Todd Meadows falls overboard from the Aleutian Lady fishing boat in the treacherous Bering Sea on Feb. 25; This incident is currently under investigation by the US Coast Guard.

Following the tragedy, his mother, Angela Meadows, said the family had a clear request for the channel.

“We do not want to see any footage of the crash and we do not want Discovery to release this footage or make money from our son’s death,” he said. TMZ on Wednesday. ‘We hope only good things are published about Todd on that boat.’

Instead, he explained, the family wanted images of Todd crabbing at sea so they could remember him doing what he loved and keep them as a lasting memory.

“We don’t want to see any footage of the crash, and we don’t want Discovery to release that footage or make money from our son’s death,” he told TMZ on Wednesday.

The family says they are still waiting for clear answers as the Coast Guard continues to investigate what happened, but Angela shared that she is confident her son was not suffering in his final moments.

While he emphasized that they did not want to point fingers, he made it clear that the family expects accountability.

We don’t want to put the blame on anyone, but someone has to take responsibility. “We will get justice for Todd,” he said.

He also expressed hope that production crews wouldn’t just stand by and film the horrific events as they happened.

Angela said she and Todd’s father Luke were trying to stay strong but insisted they “want answers” as the investigation continues.

The Daily Mail has contacted Discovery representatives for comment but has yet to receive a response.

Todd Meadows was only 25 when he died and left behind three young sons.

GoFundMe, launched to support the children, has already raised more than $30,000.

His comments came after Todd’s bunkmate, Trey John Green III, revealed that the cameras were indeed rolling when the tragedy occurred.

He also expressed his hope that the production teams would not stand by and make a movie about the terrible events.

He added that trying to save someone’s life while at sea is “no easy task,” and described Meadows as a “wonderful person.”

Many wondered if Meadows’ tragic death was filmed for the 22nd season of Deadliest Catch, and Green confirmed that it was.

Filming on ‘Discovery’ has finished, but for the past two months there has been a producer and a deck camera man on the boat to film the 22nd season of the show. Unfortunately it was withdrawn.

“There is also a deck camera that records everything 24/7 and it captured everything related to the incident as well,” Green told UsWeekly.

The reality star said she wasn’t sure what Discovery Channel would ultimately do with the footage.

Filming for Season 22 of Deadliest Catch has wrapped with The Aleutian Lady being the last ship still at sea.

Green also claimed that the crew on the fishing boat were taking some time off to go home and mourn the deaths of their fellow fishermen, but would eventually continue filming the reality show.

The Daily Mail has confirmed that Meadows fell overboard from the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady in the Bering Sea on February 25, 2026, and that his death is currently being investigated by the US Coast Guard.

A coastguard representative said: ‘He was rescued unresponsive by the crew approximately ten minutes later. First aid and resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and the crew transported the deceased to Dutch Harbor.

He said: ‘Captain Rick Shelford dropped me off at the airport in Dutch Harbor. ‘We’re just flying home for a few days then flying back to finish the season.’

This comes after distressing new details emerged about Meadows’ death.

‘Unresponsive’ Meadows was rescued by the ship’s crew about ten minutes after falling overboard, but ‘resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.’

Meadows’ body was then transported to Dutch Harbor and delivered to the Anchorage Medical Examiner’s office in Alaska on Feb. 27, a source said. TMZ.

An autopsy was performed and Meadows’ body was released on March 2.

A representative of the US Coast Guard released the following statement to the Daily Mail: ‘On February 25, 2026, at 5:05 pm local Alaska time, Coast Guard watchdogs at the Arctic Regional command center in Juneau received notification from the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady reporting that a crew member named Todd Meadows had fallen overboard approximately 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor.

‘He was rescued unresponsive by the crew approximately ten minutes later. First aid and resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and the crew transported the deceased to Dutch Harbour.’

The US Coast Guard continued: ‘The Coast Guard is currently investigating this situation. ‘As the nation’s leading maritime safety organization, the Coast Guard investigates maritime accidents and accidents, uncovering their causes and initiating necessary corrective measures.’

Meadows died aboard the Aleutian Lady on Wednesday in what Captain Shelford called “the most tragic day in the history” of the ship. He was the father of three sons.

A representative for Discovery Channel released the following statement to the Daily Mail regarding Meadows’ death: ‘We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Todd Meadows.

‘This is a devastating loss and our hearts go out to his loved ones, his crew and the entire fishing community at this incredibly difficult time.’

In his tribute, Captain Shelford explained that Meadows was the newest member of the crew and quickly became family due to his strong work ethic, quickly gaining the respect of everyone on the crew.

He continued in his post: ‘His smile was contagious and the sound of his laughter coming from the wheelhouse steps or atop the deck trailer is something we will always carry with us.

‘Todd’s love for his children, his family and his life was evident in everything he did. ‘He worked hard, loved deeply and brought joy to those around him.’

Meadows died aboard the Aleutian Lady in the Bering Sea on Wednesday, in what Captain Shelford called “the most tragic day in the ship’s history.”

A memo was sent to Deadliest Catch producers informing them of the incident and providing them with resources to help them cope with grief. TMZ.

Captain Shelford continued his statement: ‘Our hearts are broken right now beyond what words can fully express.

‘We ask that you lift Todd’s children and family up in prayer and keep them in your thoughts as we face the days without him.’

Although Meadows’ time on the boat was short, Captain Shelford concluded his praise by saying he made a huge impact on the boat and crew.

He wrote: ‘Todd will forever be a part of this boat, this crew and this brotherhood. Although we lost him too soon, his legacy will live on through his children and in every memory we have of him.

‘Relax until we meet again, brother.’

It is also revealed that they will use the funds to help with funeral expenses and help the family get through the coming months.

Built in 1980, the ship usually has a crew of five to eight people and is owned by the aforementioned Captain Shelford.

The Aleutian Lady and Captain Shelford appeared on Discovery Channel reality series 19 to 21 from 2023 to 2025.
