Deadly Chinese Manja Leaves 4 With Neck Injuries

Hyderabad: The banned synthetic ‘Chinese Manja’ has caused serious neck injuries to four motorcyclists, including a police officer and a student, in different parts of the city in the last seven days.
In the last incident reported on December 30, T. Ashok, 29, was injured by a glass-covered nylon rope while passing in front of a theater in Saidabad. When he was found bleeding profusely on the road, traffic officer M. Kranthi took him to the hospital.
On December 29, the fatal rope almost proved fatal for Md Jameel, a food delivery manager in Shamsheergunj. The corrosive thread wrapped around his neck, causing a deep wound. Jameel was taken to a private hospital where he had to undergo a procedure that involved 22 sutures to close the wound.
On December 26, B.Tech student Jashwanth Reddy suffered serious neck injuries while riding a bike under Keesara police limits. He is being kept under medical supervision in a private hospital.
Shivraj, a police constable on duty at Langer Houz traffic station, was injured when the synthetic rope wrapped around his neck while he was driving on the Tilaknagar-Narayanguda flyover on December 25.
Although the sale and use of synthetic manja was prohibited due to its life-threatening nature to humans and birds, kite enthusiasts continued to use the deadly rope. Police warned commuters, especially two-wheeler drivers, to be extremely careful while using flyovers and open areas.
