Debut in politics, Nishant Kumar remains busy with party activities

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar (44) has been visibly active ever since he officially entered politics after joining the Janata Dal (United) on March 8, 2026.

Junior Mr. Kumar, who is likely to be one of the new Deputy Chief Ministers of the state, has been visiting Temples, Gurudwara, Mazar and various other places to pay his respects to eminent leaders to seek their approval after joining the party.

He first went to JP Golambar where he paid his respects by decorating the statue of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan. He then visited the Karpoori Thakur Memorial Museum in Patna, where he paid his respects to Thakur, who was awarded the country’s highest honor, the Bharat Ratna, by the President in January 2024.

After joining the party, Mr. Nishant Kumar went to the Prime Minister’s house to seek the approval of his father Nitish Kumar. Later, he graciously accepted their good wishes by distributing candy to the staff and security guards in the housing office.

The only son of Mr. Nitish Kumar, a software engineer by profession, later visited the Mahavir Mandir in Patna to pray to the god.

Being the son of an experienced politician who knew how to strike a balance in the social equation, knowing the auspicious day of the holy month of Ramadan, he went to Mazar near Patna High Court where he presented a ceremonial sheet (Chadar) and prayed for peace, harmony and brotherhood.

People close to him feel that Junior Mr. Kumar tried to connect socially with the public and well-wishers after entering politics. On March 9, she started her day by remembering her late mother Manju Sinha and went to Manju Sinha Park in Patna’s Kankarbagh, where she paid tribute by offering flowers to her mother’s statue.

During his father’s nine terms as CM, he was rarely seen at government or party functions, after which he visited the Patan Devi Temple, where he bowed his head at the feet of the Goddess and sought her blessings.

His father, who always maintained the image of a secular leader, tried to follow his path and then went to the Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Gurudwara in Patna City and prayed for peace and prosperity in the state. During this visit, he also spent time interacting with members of the Sikh community.

As soon as he received the news of Samajwadi leader and former MLA Satish Kumar’s demise on March 10, he immediately rushed to his home in Kankarbagh, Patna, early in the morning.

There, he paid floral tributes to the deceased, met with his son and other family members to express his condolences, and also attended the funeral service.

Next up was JD(U) National Vice President and former MP Bashishtha Narain Singh, popularly known as Dada, who was about to meet the person who had become bedridden at his residence to seek his approval and also inquired about his health.

Following this, she visited the homes of her three aunts, Usha Devi, Prabha Devi and Indu Kumari, to meet them and seek their blessings before embarking on her new political journey, in which she will visit all 38 districts of Bihar from next month.

On the fourth day, he stayed in the party office from morning to afternoon. Here he held meetings with senior party leaders, MPs, Members of the Legislative Council, former MPs, spokespersons and various office holders associated with the party organisation. Hundreds of party workers and leaders chanted slogans in support of him.

He did not miss the opportunity to visit his ancestral village Kalyanbigha (Nalanda) on 12 March. He stopped his cavalcade at various places to meet party workers and the public on the way.

He made a special effort to interact with women and children and learn about their health conditions. During the interaction, several women asked him to marry and expand the family.

On reaching Kalyanbigha, he paid floral tributes to the statues of his late grandparents and mother. He then went to his ancestral home, had dinner there, and met with family members and villagers.

A large number of party workers from various parts of Nalanda district gathered to meet him. He interacted with them to assess the status of the organization and urged all to play their roles with full dedication in imparting his father’s developmental initiatives to each and every citizen.

He then went to Sevadah village to attend a special family event. He also visited the indoor shooting range in Kalyanbigha and practiced shooting and encouraged young national-level shooters to bring victory to Bihar.

Till the submission of this report, Mr. Nishant Kumar stayed at the CM’s official residence on Friday, March 13, 2026.
