Mikey Lewis: Has Hull KR stand-off played his way into starting for England in Ashes?

The first Ashes series in almost 20 years is a big deal and Hull KR head coach Willie Peters, who will be part of the Kangaroos’ backroom team in the series, believes Lewis’ performance at the Grand Final stage was a pivotal moment in his career.
“I said Mikey Lewis was coming in there and I mean that was a big moment,” Peters told BBC Radio Humberside.
“This doesn’t get any bigger than a Grand Final and he owned the first half.
“He does a lot of policing but that just shows the type of player we have, who he is and what he is about.
“He’s had some huge games this year but in terms of the Grand Finals he was ready for it and he stood up and I’m very proud given what he had to overcome.
“But he has grown so much and made a difference.”
Salford Red Devils boss Paul Rowley thinks Lewis has made his case convincingly despite a large squad of players bidding for the starting job.
“Mikey Lewis is shouting from the rooftops ‘pick me’ or ‘don’t pick me if you dare’,” Rowley told BBC Radio 5 Live. he said.
“He says he can do it, he’s a big player and he’s doing it on the big stage.
“He was deservedly man of the match, he was fantastic.
“Mikey Lewis has to be in there somewhere, but it’s hard to cram all these good players in there; there are only a few positions for so many players.”
