Decathlon handing customers cash for unwanted sports gear | UK | News

Decathlon customers can now trade in unwanted or outgrown bikes and get their money back instantly, in a move that will benefit both customers’ pockets and the planet for the first time. Rather than letting an old bike sit unused and collect dust, customers can bring it to any Decathlon store in the UK where experts can assess the bike’s condition and provide an instant quote.
To further speed up the process, Decathlon has introduced an online “quick quote” tool that allows customers to see the estimated value (usually up to 45% of the original retail price) before completing the full registration process.
For 2026, Decathlon now offers a one-hour bank transfer payment option, providing customers with real cash for their equipment.
Alternatively, those looking to maximize value for additional sporting goods can choose a gift card to use in-store or online.
From March 23 to April 12, exchange values are increased by an additional 20% bonus.
Any customer who completed their redemption in store over the Easter weekend was entered into a competition to win one of five Decathlon vouchers worth £1,000.
All brands are accepted, from Specialized and Trek to local store brands.
Customers only need to be Decathlon members at the time of exchange; This is a fast, easy and free membership.
Part of Decathlon’s ongoing commitment to circularity, the program is designed to tackle sports waste by allowing return of products for up to 15 sports, including fitness equipment, racquet sports, golf, equestrian, GPS watches, camping gear, kayaks, paddleboards and more.
Returned products will be serviced and refurbished by Decathlon experts before being resold at a discounted price across the Second Life range, helping to make sport more accessible to more people and creating a circular economy of sports goods.
More than 10,000 items have been returned since BuyBack launched in 2023, and the service has grown in popularity as UK consumers increasingly turn to the circular economy to fund their active lifestyles.
In the past year alone, searches specific to bike buybacks have increased by up to 300% as commuters and families look for smarter ways to upgrade their equipment.
Chris Allen, Decathlon UK Sustainability Lead, says: “This year, our BuyBack service is helping customers – and our planet – by offering them instant cash for their unwanted or outgrown bikes.
“With our new one-hour bank transfer and special Easter bonuses, we provide the flexibility and value needed to turn unused gear into new adventures.”
