A decomposed body and multiple explosives were found in a Connecticut home after an hours-long standoff with a man who barricaded himself inside the residence and exchanged fire with law enforcement, according to authorities.
Stamford Police responded to the Oaklawn Avenue home Tuesday morning after state police called 911 trying to enforce a court order to evict the man.
The man, later identified as 63-year-old Jed Parkington, opened fire on officers several times during the day, damaging police cars and prompting officers to return fire.
No police officers were injured in the fire.

The man was found dead later in the day from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.
Police Chief Timothy Shaw said in a statement that officers cleared the home after the shooting and found a decomposed body on the second floor. There were also explosives such as pipe bombs, grenades and molotov cocktails in the house.
“This was an extremely dangerous incident that tragically resulted in the deaths of two people,” Shaw said.

The state inspector general’s office is investigating whether police officers used deadly force during the confrontation.
A bank foreclosed on the home in April for unpaid mortgage and required the residents to vacate the property, according to court records. A judge ordered the eviction last month after offering the residents a chance to make mortgage payments.
