Defence Production Hits Record Rs 1.51 Lakh Crore in FY 2024-25

New Delhi: Annual defense production has achieved a record of 1.50,590 Crore for the Financial Year (FY) 2024-25. The milestone represents a 18% growth compared to 1.27 Lakh Crore production of the previous financial year, and a surprising 90% since 2019-20 FY, when RS 79.071 Crore, as stated in the publication of this figure.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised the collective efforts of the Ministry of Defense and all stakeholders, namely DPSUs, public sector manufacturers and private sector. He called the upward orbit as an open indicator of India’s strengthening defense industry base.

Emphasizing the success on X, Singh accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for extraordinary growth and stressed the steps of being a country’s global defense production center.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri @Narendramodi, India’s defense production reached a record level! Annual defense production rose to a high number of all times in the financial year (FY).

According to release, defense public sector commitments (DPSU) and other PSUs constituted approximately 77% of the total production, while the private sector contributed to 23%. The share of the private sector, which rose from 21% to 21% in 2023-24 financially, reflects the increasing role of the sector in the country’s defense ecosystem.

Both the public and special segments of the sector have shown an annual growth associated with a strategic focus on extensive policy reforms, ease of doing business and indigenousness in the last decade. In 2024-25 financially, DPSU and private sector production increased by 16% and 28%, respectively.

This record -breaking success underlines the increasing momentum to rely on defense production in accordance with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat attempt, leading by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The emphasis has shown positive results to reduce the dependence on imports and not only appeal to India’s needs, but also strengthen its export potential.

It can be remembered that defense exports rose to the record level of 23,622 RS in 2024-25 financially. According to the defense export figures of the 2023-24 financial year, which was 21.083 RS, it was a growth of 2,539 Crore or 12.04% RS.

India’s defense production sector, which expands continuous policy support, increasing private participation and export capabilities, is preparing to accelerate in the coming years.
