‘Arsenal of Freedom’ flyover features 8 military aircraft over Miami Beach

SPECIAL: The skies over South Florida thundered with American military might on Memorial Day weekend as Air Force Global Strike Command performed a historic flyby at the Hyundai Air and Sea Show in Miami Beach on Saturday.

Dubbed the “Arsenal of Freedom,” this unprecedented display featured an eight-ship formation of different bombers and fighters soaring over a civilian air show.

The exhibit featured a united front where Air Force active duty, reserve and Air National Guard aircraft were brought together to fly as a single unit.

Led by a massive B-52H Stratofortress, part of the B-52 Stratofortress series used in the war with Iran, the awe-inspiring formation included some of the military’s most advanced and iconic aircraft: the B-1B Lancer, A-10 Thunderbolt II, F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II, F/A-18 Hornet and two F-16 Fighting Falcons.

But the overpass was more than just a striking visual for the thousands of patriotic Americans who gathered to remember the nation’s fallen.

It carried strategic weight, showcasing America’s unique long-range strike capabilities to the public.

Air Force Global Strike Command is the only long-range strike force of its kind available to the United States and its partners, as no other allied nation has bombers capable of performing this mission.

The annual Memorial Day commemoration, organized by the National Salute to America’s Heroes, also featured exciting parachute displays and a military static display village.

Highlighting the ongoing commitment of the next generation of American patriots, the event culminated in one of the most significant military events of the Memorial Day season, an induction ceremony that swore in more than 150 new members of the U.S. armed forces.
