Delhi’s Shahdara Railway Station is set to undergo a major transformation, with plans to turn it into a full-fledged terminal similar to Anand Vihar Terminal. The announcement was made by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who shared the news on social media.

According to the Railway Minister, Shahdara Railway Station will be developed to match the standards of Anand Vihar Terminal and a master plan is already being worked on. The station, which currently has four platforms, will be upgraded to carry more trains and passengers, making it a major transport hub in the region.
Shahdara Railway Station is a major transport hub with trains running from here to various destinations including Western Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and other states. The station experiences heavy traffic congestion with more than 123 trains passing through every day.

The development of Shahdara Railway Station is part of the larger effort to develop railway infrastructure in the region. The Railway Minister also announced the introduction of two new MEMU services on this route, which will provide greater connectivity to passengers.
The upgrade is expected to benefit not only passengers but also farmers, students and small businesses in the area. The region is a major sugarcane producing region and improved connectivity is expected to facilitate the transport of goods and people.
Train routes and times
The Railway Minister also stated that the Namo Bharat Fast Train will be put into service on this route after the completion of the upgrade, which is expected to take two to three years. The introduction of high-speed rail is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve the overall travel experience of passengers.
In a related development, two new trains 04496 and 04495 connecting Badaun to Delhi Shahdara and Badaun to Delhi Shahdara have been included in this route. The trains will have 12 coaches and will stop at various stations along the way, including Baghpat Road, Khekada, Noli and Gokulpur Sabolia.
