Delimitation bill makes Tamils refugees in their own land: Stalin

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Thursday burnt a copy of the proposed delimitation bill, calling it a “black law” and accusing the Center of trying to turn Tamils into “refugees” in their own land.

He burned the copy in Namakkal, where he was campaigning, hours before Parliament in Delhi met for a special session. Stalin, wearing black with his party workers, chanted slogans and set the document on fire.

This means the Chief Minister’s protest against the Centre’s proposed delimitation move has intensified and a state-wide agitation has been officially launched. “Let the flames of resistance spread across Tamil Nadu,” he said in X. “Let the arrogance of the fascist BJP be destroyed.”

He went on to draw parallels with past anti-Hindi agitations and added that earlier resistance by Tamils calmed down only after New Delhi was forced to surrender. “Today, I reignited that fire by burning a copy of this black law and raising the black flag against this black law that aims to turn Tamils into refugees in our own land,” he said.

Stalin said that the “fire” he started would spread across the state and “bring the arrogance of the BJP to its knees”.

Lok Sabha Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday night termed the bill as an “attempt to grab power” through “reactionism”.
