Post Office issues Christmas warning as busiest day revealed

The Post Office has published important guidance for those planning to send cards and gifts for Christmas this year, revealing which day of the season will be the busiest.
The shipping company’s survey shows a third (33 per cent) of Brits plan to send a gift by post this year, while only a fifth (20 per cent) plan to send a gift in 2024.
The Post Office said an influx of mail was expected on December 8 this year, predicting that it would be the busiest day of the season. He urged the public to share early to avoid rush and ensure gifts arrive on time.
The Post Office survey highlighted that 34 per cent of the population consider sending Christmas packages and cards a beloved festive tradition. Despite this, only 33 percent plan to send their posts in early to mid-December; A significant 8 percent admit to leaving all their holiday mail until the last week before Christmas.
The company reminded customers that it also offers convenient drop-off and pickup points for prepaid packages; These points include the services offered by Royal Mail and Parcelforce, as well as Amazon, DPD, DHL and Evri in selected locations.
Postmaster Arif Matadar said: “Christmas is one of the most joyous times of the year at our post offices. There’s nothing like seeing customers coming through the door with parcels and cards, ready to spread festive cheer to their loved ones. “It really reminds me of what a community hub we are.
“Because we want our customers to make the most of the festivities, here are a few tips to help you get organized and make your sharing experience as smooth and stress-free as possible.”
Mr. Matadar advised checking the latest posting dates, especially for international destinations; as these dates will vary depending on destination.
He said writing the addresses clearly and adding the return address after them also helps things go smoothly.
Mr Matadar added that it is also recommended to opt for Royal Mail special delivery, which offers full tracking and insurance cover on items such as cash or vouchers.
Royal Mail previously announced it would hire around 20,000 temporary workers to boost delivery operations over the Christmas period.
The new positions will be spread across two package centers, four seasonal package sorting centers and 37 postal centers across the country.
