Why Pauline Hanson needs 18C

One Nation Senator Pauline Hanson in court this weekHe is pursuing an appeal against the Federal Court’s November 2024 decision, which found the Federal Court had breached section 18C. Racial Discrimination Act (RDA). This is Faruqi’s Queen Elizabeth II. It stemmed from a post telling Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi to “go away to Pakistan” in response to her allegedly insufficiently respectful reaction to Elizabeth’s death.

Section 18C says:

It is illegal for a person to perform an action other than in special circumstances:

(a) the action is reasonably likely to offend, humiliate, humiliate or intimidate another person or group of people in all the circumstances; And

(b) The act is committed because of the race, color or national or ethnic origin of some or all of the other person or group of persons.
