Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrive in Melbourne
Prince Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Elizabeth opened the Royal Children’s Hospital in Flemington Road in 1963, describing it as “a monument to Victoria’s humanity and public spirit”.
His family followed in 1985 with a visit from Diana, Princess of Wales, and Prince Charles.
The original building has since been replaced, but the hospital remains on the same road and was reopened by the Queen in 2011.
Today Prince Harry will return under different circumstances. Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who are no longer working as royals, will begin their visit to Australia (a semi-royal tour) in the same place that has served as a consistent stop on their royal itinerary.
The patients selected to meet the duo were notified this morning and began heading towards the hospital entrance.
Courtney and her 11-year-old son Archer are at the hospital for Koo Wee Rup’s clinic visit. When he heard about the visit, he decided to go down and reserve a seat at the front.
“Something to do while we’re here. Let’s get some excitement today,” said Courtney.
Royal watchers can get a sneak peek at the Los Angeles-based duo, who are expected to arrive around lunchtime after arriving on an overnight flight from Los Angeles.
