One Source called the film “great” and noted that the film opens with Cruise as Digger Rockwell, a Texas oil tycoon whose drilling rig causes a catastrophic leak, leading to a potential global disaster. Suddenly convinced that fate has called him to save the world, he embarks on a chaotic, hilarious Journey to save the world that the audience describes as ‘Beyond the Top’, and even includes meeting the president of the United States (who is apparently played by Goodman). The website also describes the film’s depiction of the theme from Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece Dr. He boldly compared it to Strangelove of the 21.st Century.
While some sources liked the movie, there were also some who were not satisfied.
