DGCA slaps Rs 2000000 fine on IndiGo over pilot training compliance issue; here’s what happened

Indigo said it is currently appealing the order before the appropriate appellate authority.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) fined Indigo 20 lakhs airlines. The company stated that the penalty was related to its alleged failure to utilize qualified simulators for pilot training at category C aerodromes. The communication from DGCA said it was received on September 26, 2025.

Indigo said it is currently appealing the order before the appropriate appellate authority. The airline also emphasized that the penalty had no significant impact on its finances, operations or other activities. Addressing the delay in the statement, Indigo explained that it was unintentional and was caused by internal delays in communicating the details of the order.
Why DGCA fined Rs 20 lakh on Indigo
The penalty relates to the use of unqualified simulators to train pilots operating at high-risk airports such as Calicut, Leh and Kathmandu. The action against the airline, India, comes after a review of Indigo’s training records which revealed that around 1,700 pilots, including command pilots and first officers, had undergone simulator training for full flight simulators (FFSS) that were not certified for operations at these particular airports.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) report, Airlines carried 1107.26 lakh passengers between January and August 2025, an increase of 4.99% year-on-year from 1054.66 lakh in the same period last year. However, August traffic was down 1.40% month over month.
“Passengers carried by domestic airlines in January -August 2025 were 1107.26 lakh against 1054.66 lakh in the corresponding period of the previous year, thus registering an annual growth of 4.99% and -1.40% monthly,” DGCA said. he said.
