Diane Abbott slams applause for Keir Starmer as PM vows to stay on | News

MP Diane Abbott showered Keir Starmer with a “staged” round of applause after he vowed to remain prime minister.

Starmer was greeted with a long round of applause after addressing Labor in parliament on Monday evening, amid mounting pressure for him to resign amid a scandal involving Lord Peter Mandelson and the latest publication of the Epstein files.

“I think the applause in the committee room just now was staged,” said Abbot, who was suspended by Labor last year. Channel 4 News.

“I can’t see it lasting beyond May’s election,” he added.

Angela Rayner, David Lammy, Rachel Reeves and Wes Streeting are among Labor ministers who have backed Sir Keir.
