Dick Cheney, former US Vice President, dies aged 84, family announces

Former US Vice President Dick Cheney, a leading proponent of the invasion of Iraq, has died at the age of 84, his family said.

The hard-working conservative served two terms under Republican President George W Bush between 2001 and 2009.

Cheney was also one of the chief architects of the ‘war on terror’ and was on duty on the morning of September 11.

He has been described as one of the most powerful and polarizing vice presidents in modern US history.
