Dick Van Dyke jokes ‘it’d be funny’ if he ‘didn’t make it’ to upcoming 100th birthday

Dick Van Dyke joked about his upcoming 100th birthday just two months before his centennial milestone celebration.
Ahead of his birthday on December 13, the screen legend showed off his still sharp sense of humor while appearing at an event over the weekend.
‘This is true. I’m not officially 100 until December. “Two months,” he said. People. ‘It would be funny if I didn’t make it.’
The actor, who is now 99 and has had a successful career spanning decades, also joined his wife Arlene Silver, 54, at the event and said marrying her was the only thing he did ‘right’.
He also revealed his secret to living long, but said he needs to ‘take better care’ of himself.
This comes after the Mary Poppins star revealed the reality of living as a newborn.

‘Sometimes I brag about how I got to one hundred and the truth is, if I had known I would live this long, I would have taken better care of myself,’ he said.
‘And it’s so frustrating because I don’t know what I’m doing right. Other than that, I didn’t do anything right.’
He married Arlene in 2012 and earlier this year he made a rare comment about their 46-year age difference, telling how they ‘got on so well’.
At the event, she reportedly also sang happy birthday for a six-year-old fan and performed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from her movie of the same name.
He also sang Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins for his fans, as well as the theme from The Dick Van Dyke Show.
The Afternoon Tea event, produced by Chris Isaacson Events, follows a post Rick Springfield shared with the movie star at the gym last month.
“Went to the gym while filming an episode of Men’s Health and who should be there other than 99 year old Dick Van Dyke working every machine,” he wrote alongside a photo of them posing together.
‘I thought I was in good shape at 76 but Dick got up from the chest press machine and did a little dance step before leaving! Unbelievable!’

The actor, who is now 99 and has had a successful career spanning decades, also joined his wife Arlene Silver, 54, at the event and said marrying her was the only thing he did ‘right’.
Earlier this year in January, the comedian talked about his fitness regime during an episode of his Where Everyone Knows Your Name podcast.
‘When you think about it… I’m going back to 1925, I’m almost 100 years old. This is crazy. I’m going to throw a big party,'” Van Dyke said.
‘Someone said: “To what do you attribute your age and physical condition?” And I said, “I’ve always exercised.” We still go to the gym three days a week. Three days a week.”
Ted Danson, one of the podcast hosts, also recalled seeing Van Dyke at a gym in Malibu.
“If I got there early enough, I’d literally see you working out on a weight machine,” the Cheers alum said.

‘Then you dance as if you were doing circuit training, instead of walking to the next machine. ‘You literally danced to the next machine and I watched that for a few weeks.’
In May, the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang star revealed what the ‘curse’ of living to almost 100 was during a Q&A at the Dick & Arlene Van Dyke Present Vandy Camp event.
At one point, the actor revealed that both he and his late friend Ed Asner were planning to remake The Odd Double before his death in August 2021, according to People .
‘It would have been a lot of fun but we lost. I lost a lot of friends,’ Van Dyke said.
His wife then chimed in and added: ‘He outlived everyone else. ‘That’s the curse of living to almost 100.’
