Disaronno recalled after bottles contaminated with shards of glass

Customers in England and Scotland are being asked to return some batches of Disaronno liqueur after it was revealed some of the bottles may contain shards of glass.
Italian distillery Illva Saronno SpA has apologized to customers after several batches of Disaronno Originale were recalled. The manufacturer said an “anomaly in the bottling line” had been found, leading to fears that consuming the drink could pose a safety risk.
The Food Standards Agency issued a warning on Thursday for the product, which is sold in supermarkets and shops across the UK.
The warning on the website said: “If you have purchased the above product, do not consume it. Instead, return it to the store where you purchased it for a refund or exchange.”

The batch codes of the affected product are 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442 and 25444 of the 700 ml bottle; these bottles must be returned to the store where they were purchased.
Point of sale notifications will be displayed in all retail stores that sell the product.
The manufacturer apologized and said the reason for the recall was “possible presence of foreign objects (micro glass fragments) in some units due to an anomaly in the bottling line.”
He added: “We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Customer safety is our priority. Do not consume the product from the specified batch and do not return it to point of sale for a refund or replacement.”
The liquor is sold in various stores across the UK, including Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury’s, which sell the unaffected one-litre and 500ml bottles.
A spokesman said: “According to the investigation, the potential presence of glass microfragments affected only 0.17 per cent of 700ml bottles affected and withdrawn from the market.
“(He) took immediate action in coordination with UK food safety authorities to resolve the anomaly, ensure consumer safety, and instructed all affected customers to immediately remove the affected stock.”
