Govt. restores guest lecturers to degree colleges for the current semester

The Karnataka government decided to maintain all the guest lecturers of the first-class colleges of the state working in 2024-25 until the completion of the current period of 2025-26 academic year.
The government order, this, will be subject to the observations of the temporary decision of the Karnataka Supreme Court on September 9, 2025 and will be subject to workload on various colleges.
In September 2024, the Supreme Court ordered the appointment of candidates who fulfill only UGC norms as guest lecturers at the degree colleges. The government did not hold any guest lecturers waiting for the final decision of the court since the beginning of this period. The 2024 order was challenged, but the court approved the previous order this year on September 9th.
In the meantime, since the classes in many colleges came to a halt due to the shortage of teachers and the absence of guest lecturers, protests were made by various student organizations.
Legal opinion
The government decided to hire lecturers for this period, according to the legal opinion of the State Additional Lawyer.
All India Democratic Students Organization (AIDS) and others, including the student organizations, welcomed the government’s decision to restore guest lecturers. In the establishment, “AIDSO welcomes the government’s reaction to the screams of the students. However, we demand that the exams be done only after the completion of at least 30 hours of teaching per subject.”
