Delhi Metro: Delhi Metro experiences heavy rush during peak hours as most people go to work, office and more. However, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has now come up with a plan to ease congestion during peak hours and improve the convenience of commuting. To overcome the problem, it has decided to expand the platforms at 32 stations, PTI reported, quoting an official.
Which metro stations will be expanded?
These metro stations include Noida Sectors-15, 16 and 18, Golf Course and Noida City Center on Line-3 (Blue Line) and Laxmi Nagar, Nirman Vihar and Preet Vihar on Line-4 (Blue Line Extension), the DMRC official said.
Project deadline
DMRC floated a tender for the project with an estimated expenditure of around Rs 5.71 billion. The work is planned to be completed within one year from the start date. The official said that the tender, which was held on October 24, will remain open until November 17. The official said that technical bids are planned to be opened on November 18, and the pre-tender meeting will be held online on October 31.
How will the decision be beneficial?
The expansion of the platform will enable stations to handle longer trains and larger passenger volumes, the DMRC official said. “This step will make boarding and disembarkation easier, reduce congestion and make travel more comfortable for passengers, especially during peak hours,” the official said.
The expansion of the platform will bring direct and significant benefits to millions of Delhi Metro passengers. He added that the expansions were carried out keeping future requirements in mind, as passenger numbers steadily increase. He added that the reduction in crowding will also reduce the number of scuffles on the platforms, making the journey safer for passengers and reducing the risk of accidents.
DMRC’s efforts to upgrade infrastructure
This move is part of DMRC’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and improve commuter experience in the busy Dwarka-Noida and Dwarka-Vaishali corridors.
