Doctors’ Dedication Key To Attract Patients to Govt Hospitals: Ponguleti

Nalgonda: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said on Thursday that the dedication of doctors and hospital staff is crucial to attract people to government hospitals, adding that infrastructure spending alone will not increase public confidence in the healthcare system.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone of a 100-bed government hospital building at Thirumalayapalem in Khammam district, he said that the existing 30-bed government hospital has been upgraded to a 100-bed facility and the construction of the new building has started at a cost of Rs 26 crore.

He said that the state government prioritizes education and health in its policies to ensure that poor people have access to quality services, and added that thousands of billions of dollars have been spent to strengthen the infrastructure and facilities in public hospitals.

He said the results of such investments can only be seen when doctors and hospital staff work devotedly and provide better treatment to patients. He added that people will choose government hospitals only when they believe doctors will be available to respond to emergencies even in the middle of the night.

The minister asked doctors and staff of Thirumalayapalem government hospital to reside in the area. He also instructed the contractors to complete the construction of the hospital building by December this year and to open the hospital as soon as possible.

He assured that Thirumalayapalem hospital will be developed at par with the district government hospital with facilities like dialysis and advanced medical equipment.

“When I visited government hospitals in Cherla, Pinapaka and Yellandu, I was impressed with the medical services offered to the public. Patients from surrounding mandals were also coming to Cherla Government Hospital for treatment,” he said.

Srinivas Reddy said that there will be two 100-bed government hospitals soon in the Palair Assembly constituency. He reminded that the foundation stone of a 100-bed hospital has already been laid in Kusumanchi, while the Thirumalayapalem project will be the second such facility in the constituency.

He said the state government has also brought major changes in the education sector and cited Young India Integrated Schools as an example.

On the occasion, the minister also distributed checks to the beneficiaries under Kalyana Lakshmi Scheme.
