Dodgers, Blue Jays deliver epic World Series game

The sleeping giant finally awoke Monday night on the West Coast and Tuesday morning on the East Coast.

Freddie Freeman came on in the bottom of the 18th inning and hit a solo home run to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 6-5 World Series Game 3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. He became the first player in MLB Postseason history to hit multiple walk-off home runs in the World Series. He did this in Game 1 against the New York Yankees last year.

The marathon could have ended at any point between the 10th and 18th innings. The Dodgers had a big chance in the bottom of the 13th. Freeman came in to bat with the bases loaded and hit the ball as far as he could before being chased by the Blue Jays outfielder.

Toronto made a few risky decisions on base routes that led to outs. Trying to finish the game was worth it at the time, but the defensive play of Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernandez dashed the Blue Jays’ hopes of winning.

Without Shohei Ohtani’s play, the game might not have even whiffed extra innings.

Ohtani hit two home runs on a 4-for-4 night for the Dodgers. He reached base safely nine times, setting a World Series record. Ohtani will pitch in Game 4 on Tuesday night; Freeman is less than 24 hours away from hitting his home run.

“I want to go to sleep as soon as possible so I can get ready,” Ohtani told FOX’s Tom Verducci through a translator.

Dodgers reliever Will Klein also played a big role in Los Angeles’ victory. Klein pitched four innings and struck out five in scoreless baseball. He threw 72 pitches; This was his second most of the night behind starter Tyler Glasnow.

Hernandez got Los Angeles started in the second inning with a solo home run off Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer. Ohtani followed that up with his first home run of the night in the third inning. But these were Scherzer’s only two flaws.

The veteran star pitcher broke the homecoming record. He was struck out for three earned runs on five hits in 4.1 innings.

Toronto came back at the top of the fourth quarter.

Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk gave Toronto the lead with a three-run home run off Tyler Glasnow. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette scored on the dinger. Andres Gimenez then scored Addison Barger on a sacrifice fly.

An Ohtani RBI double and a Freddie Freeman RBI single tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. However, Bichette left Guerrero alone at home to take back the lead.

Of course, Ohtani had a chance to make an even bigger impact. With no one left at the end of the seventh quarter, Ohtani tied the game once again on a monster field goal from Seranthony Dominguez.
