“Outstanding, extremely competitive, special,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of his star pitcher. “Yes, it was locked tonight.”
The much-needed pitching performance for the Dodgers led to Yamamoto becoming the first pitcher since Curt Schilling to throw consecutive complete games in the postseason.

Pitching for the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks, Schilling made it three consecutive times as he cashed in Games 1 and 5 of the NLDS and Game 3 of the NLCS.
Yamamoto’s final postseason homer on Sunday was Justin Verlander, who did so during the Houston Astros’ controversial World Series-winning 2017 season.
The start wasn’t much better for Yamamoto, as the Blue Jays’ leadoff hitter was on base in each of the first three innings. In fact, George Springer and Nathan Lukes singled to first and third with no outs in the bottom of the first inning.
But Yamamoto survived this ordeal and others; His only blemish was a sacrifice fly to Alejandro Kirk during his nine innings of work. The fastball-splitting combo was working well for him again, as his 74 mph spinner was fooling hitters all night long.
While Yamamoto was setting the tone for Los Angeles, Kevin Gausman was doing the same for the Blue Jays. But that lasted until the top of the seventh inning, when Will Smith and Muncy grounded out to make it 3-1.
The Dodgers would add two more runs to give Yamamoto a cushion, but even though he had a two-run lead, he seemed so locked in that those runs didn’t matter in the end.

“He was that good,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. Sports Illustrated. “He made it difficult for us to run him. He was in the zone, in and out of the split zone. What he did was a really good performance.”
The World Series now moves to Dodger Stadium this week with Game 3 on Monday night at 8pm ET.
