Two bodies are found in Snowdonia in hunt for missing men, 19 and 20, as mountain rescue team battle snow and ice

Two young climbers who went missing in Snowdonia this week have been found dead.

Days of search by mountain rescue teams battled snow and ice and ended tragically with the discovery of two bodies.

The men, aged 19 and 20, were reported missing after going for a walk on Snowdon in North Wales, also known as Yr Wyddfa, on Wednesday.

A massive search was launched to find the two walkers, with Llanberis mountain rescue team, Aberglaslyn mountain rescue team, RAF experts and coastguard helicopters deployed.

They searched until the early hours of Thursday morning. Searches resumed at 08:00 on Thursday.

However, police confirmed today that two bodies were found on the snowy mountain.

Jurgen Dissmann, Chairman of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, said: ‘On behalf of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the families and loved ones of the two men who tragically lost their lives.

‘The team was deployed by North Wales Police and launched a comprehensive multi-agency operation in full winter conditions. Volunteers searched through snow and ice in difficult mountainous terrain and worked long hours throughout the night in difficult weather conditions to locate the couple as quickly as possible.
