Dogs Removed From Symbiosis Campus, Students Seek Info on Whereabouts

Hyderabad: International Symbiosis Institute students approached NGO AASRA after waking up to find stray dogs missing in and around the campus.

According to the students, they first approached the NGO and later met officials at the gram panchayat, who referred them to GHMC. Company officials denied any involvement in the dog-catching activity.

The NGO stated that it was unclear whether the institute followed the Supreme Court guidelines on the treatment of stray dogs and requested the authorities to explain where these dogs were taken.

AASRA alleged that the dogs were violently captured using wires. Students claimed 37 dogs, including puppies, were missing; Six of them came from within the campus and the rest from surrounding areas. Alumni who adopted some of the puppies also expressed concern about the sudden disappearance of the dogs.

Students told the NGO that the dogs on campus were neutered, vaccinated, non-aggressive and looked familiar to students. They said they hold regular adoption drives and were shocked when they couldn’t find a dog on campus without notice.

The students claimed that the administration did not inform them about the dog-catching activity, despite previous assurances. They claimed that the campus administrator said it was not his duty to inform students and directed them to unrelated departments.

A university official, who made a limited statement to AASRA, reportedly said that a letter has been written to the gram panchayat to clear the dogs, as per University Grants Commission (UGC) rules and a recent Supreme Court order. However, the NGO said that no information was given about where the dogs were taken.
