Dolphins star Thomas Flegler scores in return against Gold Coast Titans, Selwyn cobbo shows signs of life

Flegler confirmed his shoulder will need constant management for the remainder of his career as he hopes to work towards a recall to the Maroons and Kangaroos.

“I think after an injury like that you have to do some rehab for the rest of your career, it just happens. But as far as injury goes, we’ve made a really good recovery and we’re happy with how things turned out,” Flegler said.

“I just need to be a little careful in and around the gym, maybe a few extras here and there. Flegler’s return coincided with the return of Dolphins captain Tom Gilbert, who lined up in the front row following a sternum tear that ended his 2025 season after the 11th round.

The setback comes after an anterior cruciate ligament rupture (2024) and dislocated shoulder (2023) that limited him to just 21 NRL appearances in three seasons at Redcliffe.

Gilbert hinted that he will be a substitute in next week’s trial against the Warriors, which could be another opportunity to share the court with star player Selwyn Cobbo.

The former Broncos flyer has undergone a significant weight-loss transformation in a bid to reclaim his career, having long been one of the game’s premier talents but criticized for his inability to showcase it consistently over the course of a campaign.

Despite being limited to just seven touches on Thursday night, he managed to make them count at centers; He finished with 71 meters and four steals, often dragging several defenders with him.

“He was fantastic, he had a great pre-season. The important thing was that he got fitter and lost some weight, but his interest in football was tremendous,” Gilbert said.

“I think it paid off tonight when it came time to touch it or get his hands dirty, he did a really good job.

“According to me [the weight loss] “It’s a little struggle going on but it’s impressive to see his work ethic and he really takes football seriously.”
