Don Lemon arrested over church protest in Minnesota, lawyer says

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon was arrested by federal agents in connection with his journalism covering protests in Minnesota, his lawyer said Friday.

His lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said in a statement that Lemon “was taken into custody by federal agents last night in Los Angeles, where he was covering the Grammy awards.”

“Don has been a journalist for 30 years, and his constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis was no different than the way he always did it,” Lowell said.

Ministry of Justice officials, on January 18, St. Paul had publicly vowed to file criminal charges against Lemon, who attended a protest at a church in Minnesota.

Lemon, a freelance reporter who hosts “The Don Lemon Show” on YouTube, said he was covering the protest. A federal magistrate judge last week reportedly He denied the criminal complaint against Lemon.

In his statement Friday, Lowell called Lemon’s arrest “an unprecedented attack on the First Amendment” and “a transparent attempt to distract from the many crises facing this administration.”

“Don will fight these charges vigorously and thoroughly in court,” Lowell said.
