Chief Minister MK Stalin virtually inaugurated the 14.50-crore campus of Government Arts and Science College at Pachur village near Jolarpet town in Tirupattur on Thursday.
Higher Education officials said the new permanent campus of the government college has put an end to the ordeal of 230 students, including over 100 women students, who had been attending classes in a temporary accommodation within the Government Higher Secondary School in the village since 2023 when the college officially came into operation.
The single-storey building has 16 classrooms, five science laboratories and a large library for students. There are also separate rooms for administrative work, teachers, canteen, toilets and parking area for two-wheelers and cars. LED lights have been provided in the classrooms for better brightness. Solar panels were placed on the roof to provide clean energy to some electrical equipment on campus. As part of security measures, CCTV cameras have been installed on the campus along with combined wall and grid fencing to prevent unauthorized entry, especially after university hours.
“We will move to the permanent campus in the coming days. Students of the government university can also participate in extracurricular activities in the new campus along with their studies,” said V. Senthil Kumar, principal of the university. Hindu.

In terms of academics, the college offers five UG courses in Geography, Commerce, Tamil, Botany and Computer Science. The director said that more courses will be opened for students in the coming years.
Spread over an area of five acres, the college admits students from more than 25 villages in the surrounding area, including tribal hamlets near the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border region. “The new campus also helps us train in various sports events. More buses should be operated to the new college campus so that we can attend classes on time,” said S. Vinod, a student.
