Donald Trump condemns Iran’s human shield tactic as Strait of Hormuz deadline and extinction warning nears

As the deadline set by US President Donald Trump approaches, tensions have risen following reports that Iranian civilians are being encouraged to gather around key infrastructure facilities potentially targeted in US or Israeli strikes.

Mr. Trump condemned the tactic, calling calls for civilians to form protective chains around power plants and bridges “totally illegal.”

Asked about crowds gathering near infrastructure such as Iranian power plants and bridges as the countdown continues towards Iran’s ultimatum to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Mr. Trump said: “It’s completely illegal. They’re not allowed to do it.”

This development comes amid increasingly frightening rhetoric from the US President, who has warned of serious consequences if Iran fails to meet his demands.

In recent statements, Mr Trump has suggested catastrophic consequences could occur if the deadline passes without a deal, raising global concern about the risk of escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The president used his Truth Social platform to make what was seen as a final offer for peace, including the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, or a dire harbinger of major military escalation.

“An entire civilization will die tonight and never be brought back. I don’t want it to happen, but it probably will,” Mr. Trump wrote.

“But now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change dominated by different, smarter and less radical minds, it might be something revolutionary, WHO KNOWS?

“Tonight we will learn about one of the most important moments in the world’s long and complex history. 47 years of usurpation, corruption and death will finally come to an end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”

Mr. Trump also confirmed that the United States and Tehran remain locked in “heated negotiations” as diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes. He said he expected further briefings following reports that the Pakistani prime minister had requested a brief extension to allow more time for talks.

“I can’t tell you because we’re in heated negotiations right now,” Mr. Trump said.

While global leaders and markets are closely monitoring whether the negotiations will ease tensions or lead to more conflict, the situation remains stable as the Strait of Hormuz is at the center of the conflict.
