Journalist Piers Morgan has issued a warning to Donald Trump after his administration released a bizarre video combining footage from real-life drone strike videos from the conflict in Iran with clips from a Nintendo Wii game. The post shows footage of beats cut from parts of the Wii Sports game; While the characters score goals, the show’s recognizable upbeat music plays in the background. The caption accompanying the alarming post simply read: “INVINCIBLE.” It has been viewed almost 100 million times since it was shared on March 12. Reacting to the video, Morgan was outraged: “I hate these posts that treat war like a video game. This is extremely serious and a lot of people are being killed, including innocent children and US servicemen/women.”
He issued a warning to the President, adding: “This is not a game, Mr. President @realDonaldTrump; please do not treat it that way.”
Morgan’s comments sparked mixed reactions, with one person writing: “This is disgusting. I mean, it’s not funny, this is not the time to show off by dancing around like a proud peacock during mating season. War is tragic and heavy and we’re losing soldiers. Why don’t we post about them? Why don’t you honor those who died on our side? This is disgusting.”
Another said: “Social media sometimes forgets that there are real lives behind every headline.”
A third added: “My question is, does the White House think it’s working because they keep doing it? So who is the audience here? Is there a group of Americans who look at war from a gaming perspective?” Another wrote: “So weird coming from the White House.”
Meanwhile, someone added: “This is a way to capture the attention of younger generations. I love the @WhiteHouse social media team. They are absolutely top notch.” Another wrote: “The post was about military success, not about treating war like a game.”
The conflict between Iran, Israel and the USA has been going on since the end of February.
