Elderly US woman shocked to receive racy new car licence plate

An elderly woman in Florida has become the talk of the retirement community after vehicle licensing officials assigned her an obscene license plate.

Pompano Beach resident Nancy Dello Stritto said she “went ballistic” when she discovered the new license plate number was “SQZ A55.”

“I don’t think a senior who is almost 77 years old is going to be walking around with a license plate that says that,” Dello Stritto told CBS News in Miami. and added: “How can this pass inspection?”

He said some neighbors encouraged him to replace the plate, while others (including family members and his sons) told him to keep it.

Dello Stritto said he was expecting a new license plate and didn’t notice any problems at first when he received it in the mail.

Despite his displeasure, he decided to keep the plate “just to see what would happen.”

“I agreed to it; maybe it was destined to be in my car,” Dello Stritto said.

“A few honks here and there and I can handle it. In fact, since I’m over 70, I could use a few honks.”

According to CBS, Florida license plates were produced at a state prison in North Florida for nearly 100 years before being distributed through government agencies.

License plates deemed offensive can be replaced for free, Broward County officials said.
