Donald Trump Tells CBS News’ Tony Dokoupil That If Kamala Harris Won In 2024, “You Probably Wouldn’t Have A Job Right Now”

CBS Evening News Host Tony Dokoupil interviewed Donald Trump on Tuesday, and one of the unusual moments was when the president talked about what would happen if Kamala Harris won the 2024 election.
The president claimed that Harris would continue what he called the “mess” of the economy under Joe Biden.

“If he had walked in, you wouldn’t have a job right now. You probably wouldn’t have a job right now,” Trump told Dokoupil during the interview at a Ford plant in Detroit.

The president then appeared to be referring to David Ellison, who became CEO of Paramount last year after Skydance acquired CBS’ parent company. Ellison’s father, Larry, is a longtime supporter of the president.
“Your boss is a wonderful man,” Trump said. “Maybe he could go bankrupt. OK. Maybe he could go bankrupt. I doubt it in his case, but you never know. Let me tell you, you can’t get this job. You definitely can’t get this job, no matter how much money they pay you.”
Dokoupil later said: “I think I’ll get this job even if the other guy wins.”
Trump replied, “Yes, but with less pay.”
Evening News Dokoupil said he conducted the entire interview and lasted about 15 minutes.
During the meeting, Trump talked about taking “very strong action” against Iran if the regime hangs protesters amid unrest spreading across the country. However, the president did not make a clear statement about what this meant. At other points, Dokoupil left some of Trump’s claims unchallenged, including his claim that he “ended eight wars.” HE Criticized by AP as exaggeration and other verification sites.
Trump also claimed “there is no inflation” and later said he had brought inflation “down to a level they haven’t seen in about nine years.” In fact, consumer prices rose about 2.7% in December, according to the Labor Department, and inflation was below 2% during Trump’s first term. CBS Evening News anchor noted: “When I travel around the country and I travel all over the place and I talk to ordinary Americans, they tell me they don’t feel it.”
Trump: “I’ve only been here 11 months, okay?” he replied, and then added that he had “inherited a mess” and that “we now have the hottest country in the world.”
The most revealing part of the interview may have been when Dokoupil asked Trump about the shooting death of Renee Good by an ICE agent last week.
Dokoupil said he spoke with Good’s father, who is “a big supporter.”
“He’s heartbroken that his daughter is dead. He’s also heartbroken that your administration came out so quickly and said he was a domestic terrorist. What do you want to say to her father right now?”
Trump said, “Well, I want to tell the father that I love all our people. Like you said, they could be on the other side. He could be on my side.”
“He’s on your side,” Dokoupil said.
Trump responded: “And I think that’s great… and I bet he was a very tough, wonderful person under normal circumstances, but he was also pretty tough.” He then defended ICE and blasted Joe Biden before returning to the video of Good’s killing and acknowledging that the videos are open to interpretation. Immediately after the murder, the Department of Homeland Security said Good tried to attack an ICE officer with his vehicle.
“When you look at this tape, I think it can be seen two ways,” Trump said. “But when you look at how it happened, you see that car was towed. There are several very, very bad versions of this tape.”
