Donyell Malen hit by cup as Aston Villa game halted because of crowd trouble

Aston Villa’s Europa League match against Young Boys on Thursday was temporarily halted due to away violence at Villa Park.
Villa’s forward Donyell Malen was hit on the head by a plastic cup thrown from the away field while celebrating his first match in the 27th minute.
The Dutchman was decapitated but did not receive treatment.
After Malen scored his second goal in the 42nd minute, the match was paused for 5.5 minutes as Young Boys captain Loris Benito ran over to talk to the away fans.
Several seats in the away end were ripped out and thrown onto the pitch.
BBC Radio 5 Live’s Tom Gayle said from Villa Park: “Every Aston Villa goal saw a number of objects thrown onto the pitch from the away section.
“This led to clashes between police and officers; two men dressed in black from head to toe were dragged away in handcuffs by police officers.”
