DoorDash driver arrested for allegedly pepper-spraying customer’s food

A Kentucky woman is behind bars after allegedly pepper spraying a DoorDash customer’s food; He later told authorities he pointed the substance at a spider.
Kourtney N. Stevenson was arrested Friday by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office after a doorbell camera recorded her spraying something on a customer’s order during delivery; This incident caused a married couple to fall ill and quickly spread across the internet.
Stevenson now faces multiple felony charges, including battery causing moderate bodily injury and tampering with consumer products, according to a news release from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.
“Residents should be able to trust that the food they order for their families is safe,” Sheriff Noah Robinson said in a statement. he said. “When someone violates that trust and puts others in danger, we will respond promptly and pursue charges.”

The case began on Dec. 7 in Vanderburgh County in northern Indiana, when Mark Cardin reported that he and his wife fell ill shortly after receiving a midnight DoorDash order. 14 NEWS reported.
Authorities said they both experienced a burning sensation in their mouth, nose, throat and stomach before vomiting.
When the couple reviewed doorbell camera footage, they saw the delivery driver, a woman with blue and purple hair, drop off the order, take photos and spray the food with a substance before driving away, according to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said DoorDash records confirmed the driver was Stevenson.
When detectives contacted Stevenson, he claimed he pepper-sprayed a spider he saw during the delivery. However, researchers noted that temperatures dropped to 35 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s that night when it’s too cold for outdoor spiders in Indiana to be active.
“He told detectives he used pepper spray not on the food, but on the spider he said he saw during delivery,” the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office said. he said. “He explained that he was afraid of spiders. The lowest temperature overnight was 35 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature, outdoor spiders in Indiana are not active and cannot crawl on exposed surfaces.”
Stevenson also visited his father in Indiana and made DoorDash deliveries during his stay, authorities said.

Stevenson was charged with two level 6 felony counts resulting in moderate injury, as well as two level 5 felony counts of tampering with consumer products.

He was being held without bail as of Friday until his extradition to Indiana. The warrant includes a $3,500 cash bond, authorities said.
DoorDash confirmed to Fox News Digital last week that it had terminated Stevenson.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
