Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring security, dignity and self-reliance for tribal communities in Sonbhadra on Saturday, November 15, 2025, adding that tribal communities are key partners in progress. Mr. Adityanath spoke at the Tribal Pride Day event highlighting various plans for the community.

Speaking at a Tribal Pride Day event in Sonbhadra, Mr. Adityanath said, “The twin-engine government of NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making tribal communities key partners in mainstream progress by promoting development, good governance and empowerment. Our government is committed to ensuring security, dignity and self-reliance for tribal communities. We have promised to link tribal pride with development.”

Mr. Adityanath highlighted the immortal call of Birsa Munda, “Abua Desh, Abua Raj” and noted that its spirit of “Nation First” resonates strongly in today’s India. Recalling the 19th century struggle of Birsa Munda against British rule, the UP CM said, “Inspired by the ideals of Birsa Munda, Sonbhadra and the tribal community in Uttar Pradesh will actively contribute to national unity, security and prosperity while taking the lead in development initiatives,” adding that it has become a turning point in the protection of tribal rights.

The CM described Sonbhadra as the energy capital of Uttar Pradesh and a land with rich natural and historical heritage. “The strong representation of tribal citizens at the event is a symbol of hope and aspiration,” said Mr. Adityanath, who announced development projects worth ₹ 548 crore to strengthen connectivity and infrastructure in the region.

Talking about the steps taken by his government to preserve tribal pride, the UP CM highlighted the establishment of a tribal museum and hostel at Imlia Koder in Balrampur. “Tribal Pride Museum will soon be established in this commissionerate to showcase tribal art, folk instruments, lifestyle and traditions and inspire future generations,” Mr. Adityanath said.

He described this year as a historic year for India as it marks 150 years of birth of both Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Mr. Adityanath added: “Birsa Munda sacrificed his life for his nation with the slogan ‘Apna Desh, Apna Raj’ (Our country, our rule) when he was just 25 years old and inspired generations to fight for self-rule.”
