DP World Tour: Tommy Fleetwood wins in India to answer son’s dreams

Fleetwood had started the final round in second place, two shots behind Japan’s Keita Nakajima.

New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier, ranked 218th in the world, gave them a surprise lead after going seven-under in his over, but could not survive a double six in the 14th over.

Nakajima, meanwhile, was unable to muster his fireworks 65 in the third round and had to settle for his third runner-up finish on the DP World Tour.

But England’s Fleetwood, whose putter cooled off in Saturday’s frustrating third round, made four straight birdie runs on the turn – from the seventh to the 10th – and then made nice birdie putts on the 14th and 17th to take a comfortable two-shot advantage into the final over.

The latest victory earned him qualification for the end-of-season tournaments and continued his recent form, which included a star turn in Europe’s Ryder Cup win over the United States in New York.

“There have been plenty of times where things haven’t gone my way, but I’ve won the last two tournaments I’ve been in contention for, so maybe things are starting to look up a bit,” added Fleetwood, following the latest success of a remarkable season that saw him finish in the top 10 on eight occasions on the PGA Tour.

Our English friend Alex Fitzpatrick made birdie in the last round and completed the race with a score of 67 in the third round in a row, which left him 18 points behind and placed in third place together with Irishman Shane Lowry.

Viktor Hovland finished his week successfully, moving to under 17 points and moving up to fourth place after contributing for the final eagle.

Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, was tied for 25th with 11 points.
