Sarah Ferguson has had an extremely difficult year after details emerged about her ties to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. He was soon given up on being a patron of several charities, including those supporting children, when an email resurfaced in which Sarah called the disgraced financier a “great friend”.
In the months that followed, both Sarah and her ex-husband were officially stripped of their royal titles and put in formal notice at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, the 30-room mansion they had shared since 2008.
But before all the troubles of 2025 began, Sarah had a close relationship with King Charles and has even confirmed that he played pranks on her as a child.
The daughter of Major Ronald Ferguson, then the Prince of Wales’s polo manager, she grew up on Dummer Down Farm in Hampshire. As the Ferguson family were in frequent contact with the Royal Family, it was not unusual for the future King to come and stay.
In fact, they were so close that Sarah and her older sister Jane would play pranks on their special guests.
Speaking to the Sunday Times In 2024, Sarah revealed: “When I was in Dummer, my mother used to say: ‘When the Prince of Wales comes to stay, don’t be naughty with him, don’t throw him in the pool.’ I would dunk him directly in the pool and place fake dog poop outside his room. “He thought it was very funny.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the former Duchess opened up in more detail about her relationship with the King and how they remained close despite her divorce from Andrew and various scandals over the years.
She explained: “I’ve known the King all my life and I absolutely adore him. He’s kind and makes me laugh and I love that he still calls me Fergie.”
In the interview, he also talked about his relationship with Queen Camilla. “Queen Camilla was close friends with my mother, which is why we are so close now,” she shares. “But Diana has been my best friend since I was 14. That’s why the Queen and I have such a great relationship. It’s quite nice and reminds me of my mother.”
Ferguson added that he wishes he could do more for the royal family, saying of Queen Camilla: “I admire the extraordinary support she has given to this country. I want to do as much as possible for the Queen. I just wish they would have asked me to do more.”
