Shooting in Texas: Shooting at Austin Central Library leaves 1 injured, here’s what we know about the victim’s condition and the suspect as probe continues

Austin police said that a shooting incident occurred in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, and one person was injured. The incident took place at the Austin Central Library. Police also reported that a suspect was detained. Police said they received a call just after noon to 710 West Cesar Chavez Street and the caller said he heard a gunshot, Fox 7 Austin reported. Officers found a victim in the library and took him to the hospital.

Shortly after noon, Austin’s 911 system received reports of a shooting at the Austin Central Library, Deputy Police Chief Lee Rogers said at a media briefing. Police said the suspect left the scene before police arrived, but police later located him and he was taken into custody in the city’s South Austin neighborhood around 1:25 p.m.

Rogers said he had no further information about the suspect or where specifically in the library the shooting occurred. Police said the library was evacuated and the shelter was later removed. “This appears to be an isolated incident, not an active shooting situation,” Rogers said, according to the AP news agency. The officer also stated that a suspect and a victim were involved in the incident.
In an update on the victim of the shooting, police confirmed the injuries were serious but not life-threatening. A shelter-in-place notice was sent out by the city’s notification system. However, the warning was later removed. While Austin Police continue to investigate the matter, no information about the suspect has been released so far.
