The driver, 22-year-old Spencer Rothwell-Poole from Horwich, died at the scene.
Sale, of Ina Street, Bolton, was arrested and found to be nearly 10 times the legal limit for ketamine while driving.
Police said the man had been driving erratically throughout the evening and was on the opposite side of the road at the time of the collision.
Sale was sentenced to 10 years and eight months in prison at Bolton Crown Court on Thursday, February 26, after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. He has been disqualified from driving for more than 12 years.
