Drugs found in van, man arrested after wild police pursuit in Melbourne

A man has been arrested after police found a “large quantity of drugs” in a mini van, leading police on a chase through the Melbourne CBD and crashing into another vehicle.
The chase began after police spotted the minivan, which is of interest in an ongoing investigation, driving along Leakes Road in Truganina at around 4am on Tuesday morning.
Police secretly pursued the vehicle along the West Gate Highway until it took the Kings Way off-ramp and headed towards the CBD.
Vehicle mobilization devices were deployed along Kings Way and the minivan was successfully slowed but could not be stopped.
The chase continued through the city until the van crossed onto the wrong side of the road and police ended the pursuit.

Shortly afterwards, the minivan collided head-on with another car on the Kings Way Bridge.
The driver of the minibus suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital under police custody.
Two people in the other vehicle were also injured in the collision and were treated at the scene.
Police searched the van, allegedly finding “a large amount of drugs”.
Kings Way was closed for hours in both directions between Flinders St and the West Gate Highway on Tuesday morning, causing delays.
Incoming traffic was being diverted and commuters were urged to use alternative routes.
The route reopened shortly after 7.30am.
