Drunk driver rams car into Bengaluru restaurant wall

Seven people had a narrow escape when a speeding car crashed into a road barrier and crashed into a hotel 30 meters away in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, late on Thursday night (January 9, 2026).

The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage.

According to JB Nagar traffic police, the accident took place around 11.34 pm when a speeding car came from 18 Main Road, Indiranagar. The driver failed to turn left and drove straight ahead, jumping the barrier before crashing into a hotel.

Police said the car was being driven by 42-year-old Derrick Tony, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

At the time of the incident, a group of young men and women who had finished dinner were standing in front of the hotel. Citizens who heard the car hitting the barriers quickly fled the scene and escaped without injury.

Police said that the accident was caused by excessive speed and drunk driving, and that the owner of the vehicle was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. The slightly injured person was taken to hospital. The police are waiting for him to recover before questioning him.

A case was registered under the jurisdiction of Jeevan Bima Nagar Traffic Police Station.
