Mayuree Naree was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz today
Iran claimed responsibility for the attack on two ships in the Strait of Hormuz today, after both crews “ignored the warnings” of the Iranian navy.
Tasnim News Agency reported that the Iranian navy opened fire on the Liberian-flagged Express Rome and the Thai container ship Mayuree Naree earlier today.
This came as the Iranian military insisted that ships passing through Hormuz were ‘legitimate targets’ if they belonged to the US, Israel and their allies.
The report includes the following statements: ‘The Express Rome ship, which belongs to the Zionist regime and flies the Liberian flag, was hit by Iranian rockets this morning and stopped in place after ignoring the warnings of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.
‘The container ship Mayuree Naree was also set on fire by Iranian forces a few hours ago after it ignored the warnings and threats of the Revolutionary Guard Navy and insisted on passing through the Strait of Hormuz illegally.’
Mayuree Naree was reportedly heading towards India when she was attacked. While 20 crew members were rescued by Omani authorities, search efforts continue for the remaining three people.
