Dutch brewer Heineken to cut up to 6000 jobs

12 February 2026 01:05 | News

Stating that Dutch beer producer Heineken plans to lay off 5,000 to 6,000 people in the next two years, the company added that costs should continue to be reduced in Amsterdam.

The brewer has been suffering for some time due to declining beer sales worldwide.

It was stated that approximately 1.2 percent less beer was sold last year.

Sales in North and South America and Europe are particularly under pressure, the company said.

In 2025, it generated revenues of approximately 34.2 billion euros and profits of approximately 1.9 billion euros, an increase of 92.7 percent compared to 2024, due to the impairment of the investment in China Resources Beer.

The company expects fiscal 2026 operating profit to increase between 2 percent and 6 percent.

Approximately 87,000 people work for Heineken in 190 countries.

The company will focus on digitalization and artificial intelligence.

Some breweries will close, but the company has not yet specified which countries will be affected by layoffs.

Heineken aims to save between 400 million euros and 500 million euros annually.

In October it announced a restructuring plan that would save around 2 billion euros

The company said 400 people would be laid off at its Amsterdam headquarters.
